About Us

Born to Run Kennels was started in 2015 by Ryan. Based on the combination of Ryan’s running/coaching, Springsteen’s music and his love for athletic bird dogs that he proclaims are, “born to run.”

After a stint on the road and in the South (Alabama), Ryan decided to focus on developing his personal dogs with training he learned. For a brief time he trained exclusively on ruffed grouse and woodcock in the Pennsylvania hills near his hometown of Towanda. Eventually, making a move westward to Idaho.

The move to Idaho was not to be a dog trainer. It was to better position himself in a wild bird rich area in order to train and develop the three dogs he currently had.

The concept is simple, they need to be a productive “wild bird dog.” With the understanding that each dog is different and has different needs, wild birds, a majority of the time, fill those needs.

Each year the kennel progresses and grows in many ways. Ryan now spends time between the prairies, canyon country and south texas. Essentially training on the endless fall. He is training and developing dogs on Sharptail Grouse, Pheasant, Hungarian Partridge, Chukar, Valley Quail, Blue Grouse,  Ruffed Grouse, Sage Grouse, and Bobwhite Quail.

We truly value and regard a wild bird dog on the highest level. Our training and developing is to benefit the person that wants this “type” of animal. We have noticed a drastic change over the years of paper to paper breedings and overwhelming pen raised bird dogs. This is not our goal. This is not our style. We practice like we play and all of our dogs are consistently worked and must prove themselves at the standard we set on handling wild birds.
